Meet Wez, our hip hop tutor!

Growing up, I always loved watching dance videos and learning them.

Once I had finished school and began dancing at a dance school, many opportunities opened up for me. I even got to teach dance to children attending a summer camp, in 2010!

I opened my own Hip Hop dance studio in 2012, and it’s called ReeMicks Dance Studio.

I’ve had the awesome experience of dancing in a few local music videos as well as for live performances for local artists such as Danny K, Lloyd and Loyiso Bala.

Performing with a dance team doing Carnival shows at Rodizios and Cantare, at Monte Casino, was a huge highlight for me.

I have taught at a number of dance schools, and have given dance workshops too.

In 2016, I had a junior crew qualify to compete at the Hip Hop International that took place in Las Vegas (USA).  We were the first dancers in South Africa to be Awarded Protea S.A. Colours for Hip Hop Dance in the country.

In 2018, we qualified, yet again, to compete in Hip Hop International, this time hosted in Arizona (USA). It was there that the highlight of my dance life became a reality. World popular YouTube choreographer, Matt Steffanina, taught a class.  During the class, he chose me from a room of over 200 HHI competitors to dance with him at the end!  This was a huge honour, as that performance was recorded! It was mind-blowing, especially since he has been one of my biggest role models, and has inspired me for so many years.

Over the years as a dance studio, we have competed in various South African Dance competitions and have gained many prestigious awards. Dancing will always be in my blood. The passion inside me is as strong as day one. I strive to teach dance with honourable values to bring out the best within each dancer physically and mentally. My aim is to grow the number of people who dance as much as possible so that they feel the same happiness as what it brings me.

If the world all danced, the world would be a happier place. 🙂
